身為 Linux Kernel 開發者，趕流行是很重要的，在 mailing-list 上面可以看到 很多 Linux Kernel 新的改進、修正資訊，但是 Linux Kernel mailing-list 的 訂閱方式並未像 GNU 專案的 mailing-list 那樣直覺，對於初學者可能會覺得摸 不著邊。
本文將實例介紹 Linux Kernel mailing-list 的訂閱方式，除了 Linux Kernel 以外，本文的作法亦可以套用在 Majordomo lists at VGER.KERNEL.ORG 上面 所列的和 Linux Kernel 相關的 mailing-list 上。
1. 請求訂閱 Linux Kernel mailing-list
使用你的 email 帳號發信到 majordomo@vger.kernel.org ，並在 文章內容加上 subscribe linux-kernel ，標題可以自訂。
下面是我申請的範例:
From: coldnew <coldnew.tw@gmail.com> To: majordomo@vger.kernel.org Subject: hello --text follows this line-- subscribe linux-kernel
2. 發送確認訊息
如果你傳送出去的訊息沒有問題，過了不久就會收到從 majordomo@vger.kernel.org 寄來的確認信件，內容如下
From: Majordomo@vger.kernel.org To: coldnew Subject: Confirmation for subscribe linux-kernel Flags: seen Date: Wed Dec 18 18:04:37 2013 Maildir: /Gmail/INBOX Someone (possibly you) has requested that your email address be added to or deleted from the mailing list "linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org". If you really want this action to be taken, please send the following commands (exactly as shown) back to "Majordomo@vger.kernel.org": auth 53fefc94 subscribe linux-kernel coldnew.tw@gmail.com If you do not want this action to be taken, simply ignore this message and the request will be disregarded. If your mailer will not allow you to send the entire command as a single line, you may split it using backslashes, like so: auth 53fefc94 subscribe linux-kernel \ coldnew.tw@gmail.com If you have any questions about the policy of the list owner, please contact "linux-kernel-approval@vger.kernel.org". 照著信件上面所說的，回覆一封信到 majordomo@vger.kernel.org 並在內容 裡面添加剛剛收到信件所敘述的檢查碼，以我這邊的情況為例，我回復的訊息 如下:

3. 收到 Welcome to linux-kernel 信件
一旦你請求加入 Linux Kernel mailing-list 被核准了，你會收到一封標題為 Welcome to linux-kernel 的信件。之後，你就可以在你的信箱收到 Linux Kernel mailing-list 囉。 (注意: Linux Kernel mailing-list 每天的信 件非常多，請選用容量較大的 email 信箱來接收)
收到成功的信件如下:
